my life now is very much focused on lab. I am trying to show specificity of this drug against CML cancer cells. To do so I'm just testing it against mouse cells that either have bcr-abl or not, and in primary CD34+ cord blood and chronic phase cells. I guess I am very excited to know. So far my results show pretty consistently via western, flow, and MTT that this drug synergizes with imatinib, the latter which targets bcr-abl. So, by right the drug should be specific. It doesn't show any specificity in mouse cells so far when used alone, but might if I add in a little IM. It's a reasonable thing to do I think. Drug combinations are common. and if you're dying of cancer, what's the little trouble of monitoring regularly for the side effect (lactic acidosis) of this 'new drug'? its actually not new, but was banned in most countries cos many ppl died from the side effects. But its still not banned in italy, china and brazil.
Other than lab, i went for a dinner and dance(dukenus). It was FUN. cos we got the flying dutchman to host it and he's hilarious. At one point everyone was dancing wildly, imagine that, in the function room and even on stage. I didn't want to go on stage, so paiseh. but i was dragged up by my boss' wife! she is so wild. and they (my boss and his wife) are so loving, dancing together on stage. it was a good party. though I didn't win anything in the lucky draw again. there were TONS of prizes! i'm just really bad at lucky draw. no luck of this kind...
=)
This is a place for random musings and news that amuses me. But beware, it is also my emotional potty. Good luck!
